Willie Richard Griggs

Willie Richard Griggs, 77, of Ripley, Tennessee died on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Lauderdale Community Living Center in Ripley, Tennessee.

Born Monday, December 13, 1943 in Ashport (Lauderdale County), Tennessee, he was the son of the late Richard Louis Griggs and the late Ruth Virginia Kirkpatrick Griggs. Mr. Griggs was the retired owner of Griggs Flooring in Ripley, Tennessee.  Mr. Griggs proudly served his country in the Tennessee National Guard where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church in Ripley, Tennessee.  The times that he cherished the most were those spent with his family and fishing and duck hunting at Open Lake in Lauderdale County.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Griggs will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Wesley-Knox Chapel (Former First Presbyterian Church), located at 130 North Jefferson Street in Ripley, Tennessee.  Officiating this service will be Mr. Dan Irvin. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 PM until 2:00 at the Wesley-Knox Chapel on Saturday.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter Shannon Vowell of Jackson, Tennessee, and one son, Steve Vandergriff of Memphis, Tennessee; one brother, Monte Griggs (Mary Ella) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and two sisters, Pam Carmack (Frank) of Ripley, Tennessee and Tammie Chilcutt (Jack) of Newbern, Tennessee and one grandson, Brandon Vowell (Brooke Prater) of Jackson, Tennessee and one great-grandson, Braxton  Vowell.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Sellers and Patsy Coffey.
