Wava Jean Lumley Obituary

Wava Jean Lumley, 89, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Dyersburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born Saturday, April 4, 1936, in Dyer County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Alvis "Abb" Lumley and the late Carrie Obera Adkins Lumley.

Mrs. Lumley was a retired employee of HECO Manufacturing and Parkview Hospital, where she worked faithfully for many years. She took pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way.

In her free time, Wava Jean found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved working in her yard and took great pride in growing beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed baking for those she loved, until her health prevented her from doing so.

A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of East Dyersburg United Methodist Church prior to its closure. She found comfort and joy in attending church and especially loved listening to gospel music, which uplifted her spirit.

One of the ways Wava Jean expressed her deep love for her family was through the care she gave to their final resting places. She was passionate about keeping her family’s gravesites immaculate, making sure the grass was cut and leaves were cleared. She spent countless hours tending to them, honoring and remembering those who meant so much to her.

Her constant companion was her beloved Yorkie, who faithfully went everywhere with her and brought her great comfort and joy. Her cherished Yorkie preceded her in death, but the bond they shared remained close to her heart.

Graveside services for Mrs. Lumley will be held at 1:30 PM on  Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Mr. Michael Gregory. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

She is survived by one brother, Cotton Lumley (Cyndi) of Lenox, Tennessee; two sisters, Joyce Warren (Sam) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Frances Gregory of Dyersburg, Tennessee; special niece and nephew, Stephanie Gregory and Michael Gregory and additional nieces, nephews and extended family members that she loved dearly.`

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, J.C. Lumley, Tom Lumley, Ossie Ray Lumley and Alvis Lumley, Jr. and two sisters, Rosie Moser and Lois Lumley.

Honoring Mrs. Lumley as pallbearers will be Mike Gregory, Mike Lamb, Sam Warren, Mark Lamb, Jon McKnight and Rob Hammonds.
