Walton "Walt" Andrew Moore, Sr., 92, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Tuesday, January 16, 1934, in Centeridge (McNairy County), Tennessee, he was the son of the late Howard Moore and the late Bessie Tull Moore.
Mr. Moore was known throughout the community as "Mr. Walt."
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Era and continued his commitment to military service with the Tennessee National Guard. His patriotism remained a defining part of his life, and he could often be seen wearing his signature United States Army Korean War veteran hat, a symbol of the pride he carried for his service.
For thirty-three years, Mr. Walt faithfully served as manager of Mom's Buffet in Newbern, Tennessee. Dressed in his trademark blue overalls, he became a beloved fixture of downtown Newbern, greeting customers with warmth, friendship, and a familiar smile. Through the years, he formed countless friendships and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Outside of work, Mr. Walt found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time outdoors caring for his mules and riding his John Deere lawn mower, especially when one of his grandchildren was riding along beside him. Family was the center of his world, and he treasured every opportunity to gather with loved ones. Whether celebrating holidays, sharing meals, or enjoying his annual birthday celebration, these moments brought him immense happiness and created cherished memories for those around him.
Mr. Walt was a devoted member of Hess Lodge #93 F&AM in Dyersburg, Tennessee, where he faithfully served his fellow Masons and cherished the friendships and fellowship he found through the organization. He was also a proud member of American Legion Post #30, serving as Post Commander and continuing his lifelong commitment to honoring veterans, supporting those who served, and giving back to his community.
