Virginia Louise French, 92, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, beloved mother, Grandma and friend, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at her residence in Dyersburg, Tennessee, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born Friday, November 24, 1933, in Portageville, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Burton Foster and the late Bertha Pyles Foster.
Mrs. French was a retired employee of All-Wear Manufacturing Company, where she worked for many years as a dedicated seamstress. She carried her love of sewing into her everyday life, joyfully creating clothes for her family—especially her grandchildren, who cherished the special garments she made with such care and love.
She was a member of RoEllen Baptist Church and in later years attended Volunteer Baptist Church. Her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life.
Mrs. French enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She loved watching game shows and working puzzle books, often sharing those quiet moments with her family. A fan of country music, she enjoyed programs celebrating country music and rarely missed the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights.
She was also known for her sweet tooth and her delicious drop cookies, a treasured family favorite—especially among her grandchildren, who looked forward to every batch.
Funeral services for Mrs. French will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, December 1, 2025, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at Rehoboth Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
She is survived by her two sons, Wayne French (Joyce) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Thomas French (Elisa) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter, Rhonda Enochs (John Scott) of Finley, Tennessee; one sister Lois Yacola of Pennsylvania and she was known as "Grandma" to her many friends but especially to nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Ralph Dearl French.
Honoring Mrs. French as pallbearers will be Ryan White, Anthony French, Matt Enochs, Zabian Sanders, Jaylen Barbee, Christopher French, Dyllon Hammock and Daniel Pruitt.
"And now the time has come for you to rest, so go in peace, you have earned your sleep, your love in our hearts we'll eternally keep."
