Vickie Elaine Grigsby, 72, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at her residence.
Born on September 1, 1952, in Dyersburg, she was the daughter of the late Lee R. "Roy" Blackburn and the late Jean White Blackburn.
A devoted Registered Nurse and beloved matriarch, Vickie's life was marked by compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to both her profession and her family. Her passion for nursing began early, inspired by caring for her father during his illness. That calling led her to an impactful career in research and clinical trials, where she served with distinction at Volunteer Medical Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Her work touched countless lives and reflected her deep commitment to helping others.
Vickie was the heart and soul of her close-knit family—a guiding light whose love was the foundation of their bond. She never met a stranger and had a unique gift for making others feel seen and heard. She had a great ear for listening and always knew all the goings-on with the family. Her warmth and ability to connect with people left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Though she had a great love for flowers, her family often joked that she “couldn’t grow a rock”—a testament to her good humor and the joy she brought to daily life.
Most importantly, Vickie was good with the Lord. Her faith was strong, and she was ready to go home when He called her. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with loved ones gone before her.
She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, kindness, and boundless love that will live on through her family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Russell Scott Grigsby of Jackson, Tennessee, and his children, Ellanor Grigsby and Isabell Grigsby; one daughter, Kaye Willger of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and her children, Jake, Kailie, and Kristine; one brother, David Blackburn (Jane) of Marion, Arkansas; and two sisters, Ginny Parker (Olen) of Newbern, Tennessee, and Sandy Cross (Tom) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two sisters-in laws, Yvonne Blackburn of Athens, Alabama and Patricia Blackburn of Finley, Tennessee and also surviving is Erica Drews of Jackson, Tennessee, mother of her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Lee Blackburn, Lee R. "Duke" Blackburn, and Kenny Blackburn, and two sisters, Patsy Wright and Cathy Jean Tetreault.
Funeral services for Ms. Grigsby will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny O'Guinn officiating. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
Honoring Ms. Grigsby as pallbearers will be Russell Scott Grigsby, Ben Cross, Will Cross, Tom Cross, Olen Parker, David Blackburn, and Scott Traglia.
