Sue Gatlin Obituary

Sue Gatlin, passed away, at he age of 91, on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at her daughter's residence. She was known as "Granny" by her family and she was known by "Phila Sue" by everyone in the Glendale Community where she grew up. 

Sue was born on September 29, 1929 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to the late Henry and Nannie Essary  Hartsfield. She was co-owner of Gatlin's Grocery for over 50 years working side by side with her husband, Ed Gatlin.  She was a devoted Christian and member of Phillips Street Church of Christ.

Graveside services for Mrs. Gatlin will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Mr. Andy Brewer. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Donald Gatlin (Jackie) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter Pat Gamble (Thomas) of Dyersburg, Tennessee. She was blessed with the name "Granny" after her four grandchildren were born, Chad Gamble (Whitney), Dr. Jeremy Gatlin (Dr.Jill Gatlin), Bradley Gatlin (Brittany) and Stephanie Strayhorn. Granny was even more blessed with seven great grandchildren, Addie Gatlin, Ansley Gamble, Avery Gatlin, Braxton Strayhorn, Margot Gamble, Charlotte Gatlin, and Lane Gatlin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ed Gatlin, a sister Ada Bell Hartsfield and three brothers Wilmer Hartsfield, Henry Hartsfield, and Lytle Hartsfield.

Honoring Mrs. Gatlin as pallbearers will be member of the Phillips Street Church of Christ.

The Family of Mrs. Sue Gatlin would like to send a special thank you to AHC Rehabilitation Center for taking such good care of their "Granny" until she could return home to her family. Also to Avalon Hospice for the care that was given to her by the exceptional staff.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Phillips Street Church of Christ, 912 Phillips Street, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024
