Sondra F. Simmons

Sondra Faye Simmons, age 76, of Newbern, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital-Bartlett in Bartlett, Tennessee.

Born on April 13, 1949, Sondra was the cherished daughter of the late Herbert Dew and the late Willie Mae Fultz Dew. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, she lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and unwavering love for her family.

Sondra spent her professional life caring for others as a nurse, and even in retirement, her nurturing spirit continued to shine. She served on the board of directors for the Goldwing Chapter J for St. Jude and was a certified CPR instructor, always committed to helping those in need. Her hobbies—crocheting and fishing—reflected her patience and joy in life’s simple pleasures.

Her love story with her husband, William Simmons, was one of quiet devotion and shared adventures. Though she couldn’t swim, Sondra never hesitated to join William in the fishing boat for crappie fishing, holding an umbrella over him in the rain as he baited his hook. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and companionship.

Above all, Sondra’s heart belonged to her family. She was lovingly known as “Nana” and “Grannie” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, William Simmons of Newbern; her son, William Les Simmons (Erica) of Dyersburg; her daughter, Aleena Locke (Tracy) of Trimble; her brother, Wayne Dew (Susie) of Hornbeak; and her sisters, Paula Walker and Joan Rose, both of Dyersburg. She also leaves behind five grandchildren—William Hunter Simmons, Amber Whitt, Drake Simmons, Amy Helton, and Abbie Simmons—and six great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward with love.

Cremation services are under the direction of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Trimble Community Center, 40 South Street, Trimble, Tennessee.
