Shirley Joan "Jo" Weinreich, 88, died on Friday, June 6, 2025, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Born Monday, September 7, 1936, in Blytheville, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. Lee Buckner and the late Bessie B. Webster Buckner Rustin.
Jo shared an especially strong bond with her son, one built on unconditional love, spiritual guidance, and steadfast leadership. As a mother, she was a nurturing presence and a wise counselor, always ready with a kind word, a heartfelt prayer, or a thoughtful perspective rooted in her deep faith.
A talented writer, Jo found joy in expressing herself through poetry and storytelling. She was proud to have had several of her works published and was honored with numerous awards over the years. Sharing her writing with others brought her happiness, and her words often touched the hearts of many.
Jo’s spiritual life was the cornerstone of who she was. She was a dedicated member of Newbern First Baptist Church and rarely missed a service. A true prayer warrior, Jo’s prayers were powerful and persistent covering her family, her friends, and her community in unwavering intercession. She studied the Bible diligently and lived her life as a testament to God’s love and grace.
Professionally, Jo served as a case worker with the Arkansas Department of Human Services until her retirement. Her career was marked by compassion and a genuine desire to help others through some of life’s most difficult circumstances.
