Shannon Seaton "Sissy" Essary Obituary

Shannon Seaton "Sissy" Essary, 56, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Born on Friday, November 29, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late David Lynn Seaton and Ginger Patterson Chapman. Shannon was the former owner of Kids World & Learning Tree Day Care in Dyersburg and also served as a substitute teacher for the Dyer County School System, where she touched many young lives with her kindness and dedication. Shannon was a member of McCullough Chapel Baptist Church.

A devoted UT Vol fan, Shannon’s enthusiasm for her team was unmatched. She loved to fish at Kentucky Lake—or anywhere she could cast a line—and some of her fondest memories were made fishing alongside her father. Shannon’s love for animals was well-known; her dogs Jack, Archie, Jessie, and Elvis brought her great joy, but Rex and Murphy held a special place in her heart.

Christmas was Shannon’s favorite time of year. She cherished being surrounded by family, watching Hallmark movies, and celebrating the season’s simple joys. She also loved to travel, especially to Chattanooga and the beach, where she found peace and happiness.

Funeral services for Shannon will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday , October 29, 2025, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Wilbanks officiating. Interment will follow in Mayfield Cemetery in Gibson County, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Shannon is survived by her husband of 30 years, Monty Essary of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two sons, Easton Bennett “Nub” Essary of Dyersburg and Todd Essary of Nashville, Tennessee; her mother, Ginger Patterson Chapman of Dyersburg, Tennessee;  her step-mother,  Sharon Seaton of Paris, Tennessee; two brothers, Zac Chapman (Kristin) of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and Cale “Bubba” Seaton (Tracy) of Paris, Tennessee; two sisters, Kelley Seaton of Dyersburg and Ashley Ramsey (Josh) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; she was a devoted grandmother to Lucas Essary and Laken Roy and is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.

In addition to her father, Shannon was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edwin Charles Patterson, Rickie Patterson Hefren, James Hefren, Leon & Christine Seaton, and A.C. & Elise Bridgewater.
