Sgt. Ronnie H. Parnell

Sgt. Ronnie H. Parnell, 79, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Dyer Nursing Home in Dyer, Tennessee.

Born Friday, July 11, 1941 in Dyer County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William T. Parnell and the late Leila Johnson Parnell.

Sgt. Parnell dedicated his life to his profession of law enforcement for over forty years. In 2016, he retired from the Dyer County's Sheriff's Department with the rank of Sergeant, after thirty years of service. Many of those years he served as Court Officer for the Dyer County Courts System.

Sgt. Parnell was a Mason, member of Harmony Baptist Church and proudly served his country in the United States Army. In his personal life he enjoyed the time he worked on his farm and helping others and being a good neighbor to all.

Due to the current pandemic conditions and the family's concern for the health and welfare for others a private family graveside service for Sgt.Parnell will be 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. James Combs.

He is survived by two sons, Randy Parnell (Tami) of Newbern, Tennessee and Ronnie Parnell of Newbern, Tennessee; one daughter, Angie Pittman (Bobby) of Ripley, Tennessee; one brother, William Edward Parnell of Newbern, Tennessee and seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Williamson Parnell and one brother, Thomas Darrell Parnell.

Honoring Sgt. Parnell as pallbearers will be Chief Deputy Mike Boals, Lt. Kenny Gibbons, Sgt. Jim Gray, Sgt. Lynn Waller, Sgt. Eric Wells and Sgt. Dennis McCaig.
