Robert Eugene Chilcutt Obituary

Robert Eugene Chilcutt, 74, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Friday, September 23, 2022, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Friday, September 26, 1947, in Savannah, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Felix Porter Chilcutt and Mary Lillie White Chilcutt. After graduating from Dyersburg High School, Mr. Chilcutt worked for Oldberg (Questor Corporation) for fourteen years. During this time, he helped establish the Dyer County Rescue Squad and became an honorary Deputy Sheriff for Dyer County. He graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in Nashville, fourth in his class on the Firing Range qualifying him as an Expert Marksman. He was the Assistant Chief of Police in Trimble, Tennessee, before joining the Dyer County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy for five years. Mr. Chilcutt was then employed as an Over-The-Road Truck Driver before returning to law enforcement as a Newbern Police Officer for three and half years.  He served on the 29th Judicial Drug Task Force for West Tennessee. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  The times he enjoyed the most were those spent with family and friends.

Graveside services for Mr. Chilcutt will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Sorrell's Chapel Cemetery. Officiating this service will be Bro. Perry Grills, Visitation for Mr. Chilcutt will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He is survived by one son, Thomas Chilcutt of Newbern, Tennessee; two daughters, Stacie Purvis (Randy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Kim Sims (Patrick McDaniel) of Newbern, Tennessee; he was "Granddaddy Chilcutt" to his five grandchildren, Aaron Sims (Jamie), Lorie Betts, Tucker Sims, Grant Purvis (Kelsey) and Austin Chilcutt (Kerilee) and nine-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Chilcutt, Jimmy "Sonny" Chilcutt, Frank Chilcutt and Porter Chilcutt and five sisters, Catherine "Cathy" Simpson, Jean Wright, Polly Thompson, Martha Clutts and Helen Wells.

Honoring Mr. Chilcutt as pallbearers will be Randy Purvis, Steve Hansen, Austin Chilcutt, Tucker Sims, Aaron Sims and Grant Purvis.
