Peggy Marie Smith Parnell

Peggy Marie Smith Parnell, 85, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at her residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Thursday, May 18, 1933 in Dyer County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Allen Smith and the late Cynthia Quinn Tilghman  Smith. Mrs. Parnell was a retired secretary for the Dyer County Agriculture Extension Office in Dyersburg, Tennessee. She was a member of the Dyersburg Cumberland Church, member of the Keenagers, member of the Bontheo Circle and member of the Tennessee Porcelain Artists.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parnell will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Dyersburg Cumberland Church. Officiating this service will be Rev. Annetta Camp and Rev. Dr. Cory Williams. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Dyersburg Cumberland Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Cynthia Cherry (Carlton) of Trenton, Tennessee and Sara Nick (Lyle) of Fairfield, California; five grandchildren, Cortnee Quinn Wilkes(Jonathan), Calyn McMinn (Matt), DeLaine Marie Nick, Chasen Nick and Alyssa Bernacil (Jason) and three great-grandchildren, Asher Wilkes, Adalynne Quinn Wilkes and Charlee Jean McMinn.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Henry Eugene "Gene" Parnell; two brothers, Lincoln Smith and Fred Smith and three sisters, Aileene Wilson, Melba Anderson and Jodie Hill.
Pallbearers will be Dru Smith, Jason Glendowne, Eric Williams, Troy Vaughn, Dae Glendowne and Derek Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Malcolm Harris, David Oliver and Elders of the Dyersburg Cumberland Church.
The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Dyersburg Cumberland Church, 2280 Parr Avenue, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024.
