Murray L. Smith, 69, of Dyersburg, Tennessee died on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital.
Born Monday, October 31, 1955, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Murray Freeman Smith and the late Betty Jean White Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired employee of Dyersburg Fabrics and Homestead, where he made many lifelong friends thorough the years. Murray enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved spending time outdoors deer hunting and fishing, and he never missed a good football game or NASCAR race. In his quieter moments, he enjoyed playing games on his phone-and in his livelier moments, he took great joy in aggravating those around him, always with a grin and a good-natured laugh. Above all he loved his family. He cherished every moment spent with them.
Graveside services for Mr. Smith will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Bro. Perry Grills. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of forty-six years, Anita L. Barker Smith of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one son, Chris Smith (Jennifer) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; three daughters, Pam Sexton (Brad) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Penny Runions of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Tracy Lee (Michael) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; three brothers, Jimmy Smith (Teresa) of Finley, Tennessee, James Freeman Smith of Lebanon, Tennessee and Johnny Cole of Halls, Tennessee; four sisters, Judy Holt (Lloyd) of Newbern, Tennessee, Kathy Craig (Dalton) of Newbern, Tennessee, Lucianna Smith (John) of Halls, Tennessee and Conasaga Wilder (Scott) of Halls, Tennessee and he was "Paw" to his eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Megen Wells.
