May Wilma Holland-Skates died at 8:25 PM, January 10, 2022 at AHC Nursing Home. She was born in Newbern, Tennessee on April 8, 1937. She was brought into this world in her family's kitchen by her father, the late Dr. DeWitt T. Holland, who was a practicing obstetrician and her mother, the late Violet King Holland, who was a registered nurse.. She was born 10 minutes after the arrival of her twin brother, Clifford P. Holland, who resides in Newbern, Tennessee. She also leaves a sister, Ellen L. Holland also of Newbern, Tennessee, and a daughter, April Fairfield, who now resides in Jackson, Tennessee.
At the age of fifteen, May became a member of the First Baptist Church of Newbern, Tennessee.
May enjoyed her life's work of teaching school, mostly while living in Southern California. She went on to earn her Master's Degree, which she flew home to present to her mother, who was very proud of her.
Several years ago, May gifted her daughter with a mutually enjoyed trip to Europe: France and England. Then she came home to reside in Newbern until a fall and a stroke led her to a three year residence in AHC Nursing Home, where she died.
Graveside services for Mrs. Holland-Skates will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. James Adair. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
