Mary Lena Smith

Mary Lena Smith, 99, of Newbern, Tennessee recently died peacefully in her sleep.  She managed to maintain her keen intellect until the very end of her long life.

Born in Maxey, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Edd and Carrah Chamberlain. Mary Lena was affectionately known as Aunt"Mene" by her family, who will always remember her sweet smile and infectious laughter and the many summers spent with her.  Mrs. Smith, who was a former member of the Eastern Star, enjoyed painting and sharing her talent with her many friends.  She was also a proficient bridge player and a master of the art of pie making.  Her Caramel Pie was world famous.

Graveside services for Mrs. Smith will be 1:30 PM on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating the service will be Rev. Mike McCullough. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.  Even though we will be outdoors, the family requests mask and social distancing in light of the continuing pandemic.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one niece, Dr. Susan Mary Shuck of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; two nephews, Dr. Edwin Shuck, III and his wife, Dr. Diane Shuck of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; and Samuel and Melissa, grand niece Rissa Shuck of Millington, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Duane "Pat" Smith, one sister, Florence Celestia Chamberlain Shuck and one nephew, Michael Chamberlain Shuck.
