Mary Ella Echols Obituary

Mary Ella Echols, 91 of Newbern, Tennessee died on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born Monday, June 20, 1932, in Milan, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Kirkland "Jack" Owens and the late Mamie Jane Osborne Owens. Rev. .and Mrs. Echols were faithful servants of our Lord and Savior, working side by side in the Tennessee District of the First Assembly of God Church, for over fifty years. During the years of their ministries, they served charges in Centerville, Tennessee, Ripley, Tennessee, Rugby Park, Tennessee, Trimble, Tennessee, Dyersburg, Tennessee, Smartt, Tennessee, Savannah, Tennessee and served as the State Youth Directors for the Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Echols served as organist for many of the churches that they served.

Funeral services for Mrs. Echols will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Newbern First Assembly of God Church, located at 900 Williams Street in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating the service will be Rev. Randy Carter and Rev. Randel McCarty. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer, Tennessee with Rev. James Adair officiating. Visitation for Mrs. Echols will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Newbern First Assembly of God Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of seventy-two years, Rev. Gaylon M. Echols; three sons, Larry Ernest Echols (Tina) of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Danny Gaylon Echols (Pam) of Newbern, Tennessee and Gregory Neal Echols (Elizabeth) of Renssilaer, Indiana; one sister, Maxine Owens Foster of Madison, Alabama; two grandsons, Aaron Echols of  Tennessee and Neal Echols (Erin) of Georgia; four granddaughters, Amanda Echols of Tennessee, Nicole Lanning (Ryan) of Tennessee, Natalie Reynolds (Justin) of Georgia and Noel Klein (Michael)of Minnesota;  nine great grandsons, Patrick Echols of Tennessee, Riley Echols of Tennessee, Jackson Echols of Georgia, Cooper Echols of Georgia, James Klein of Minnesota, Jacob Klein of Minnesota, Eli Klein of Minnesota, Nolan Reynolds of Georgia and Nathan Reynolds of Georgia; two great granddaughter, Savanna Joyce Lanning of Tennessee, and Cameron Lee Echols of Georgia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Daniel Owens.

Honoring Mrs. Echols as pallbearers will be Mike Glover, J. J. Glover, Neal Echols, Mike Douglas, Lyndel Fisher, and Scott French. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Forsee, Shaun Grant, and John Childress.
