Marty Madden, 75, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Born Sunday, December 31, 1950, in Corinth, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Frank Irwin Madden and the late Joann Johnson Madden McDaniel.
Mr. Madden was a lifelong educator, coach, athlete, and mentor whose love for sports and dedication to young people left a lasting impact on every community he served. A graduate of Millington High School, Marty excelled as a multi-sport athlete and earned All Shelby County honors in three sports during his high school career.
Following graduation, he attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where he played basketball during his freshman year before transferring to Lambuth University, where he continued his athletic career as a multi-sport athlete and graduated with a bachelors degree in Education.
Mr. Madden began his teaching and coaching career with the Madison County School System before joining the Dyersburg City School System. During his years there, he became a respected teacher and coach, leading the girls’ basketball team to two state playoff appearances. For the past twenty years he continued his passion for education and athletics with the Hayti School District, where he remained dedicated to teaching and coaching young athletes.
In addition to his accomplishments in education and coaching, Marty also played professional softball with the Bale Chevrolet Team out of Little Rock, Arkansas, competing in the Softball World Series. Sports were always a central part of his life, whether coaching, competing, or cheering from the sidelines. He was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of Louisiana State University athletics.
Above all, Mr. Madden treasured the time he spent with his family, especially the moments shared with his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held.
He is survived by his wife, Jerri Ward Madden of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two sons, Marcus Madden (Tammy) of Finley, Tennessee and Matt Madden (Katie) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter, Megan Brock (Justin) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and he was Granddaddy Marty to his nine grandchildren, Devin Ridling, Clayton Madden, Makayla Madden Wright (Jacob) , Tyler Madden, Mason Madden, Stella Madden, Liza Kate Brock , Ellen Brock and Avery Madden and one great-grandchild, Lucy Wright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mike Madden.
