Mark Edward Rees Obituary

Mark Edward Rees, 51, of Bear, Delaware, passed away on May 27, 2026. He was born on February 7, 1975, to the late John E. Rees and the late Janet B. Rees. He is survived by his sister Dawn Sweeney (Kevin) and his brother Scott Rees (Katie), his 4 nephews (Benjamin, Timothy, Nicholas, Alexander), and his grandmother Betty A. Holmes.

Mark graduated from Hodgson Vo-Tech High School in 1993. While at Hodgson he learned the trade of carpentry and cabinet making. He used those skills acquired in high school to build a career that he used professionally and personally. Mark always took immense pride in his craftsmanship and designs.

Mark was a man of deep compassion and strong character. Mark worked life in a way that was far more than what was considered normal, however it was his normal. Mark’s loyalty and willingness to help others was untouched and did not have boundaries. He stood his ground strongly on his own beliefs. He would never walk away from what he believed in. He lived a passionate life, doing things his own way and making sure his voice was heard.

Mark was known by many names, including one nickname “Punchout”, one of his closest group friends “P.O.P.” and even known as the “Mayor of Bear”. Mark left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a gifted woodworker, a storyteller, and a loyal friend whose presence filled every room. Whenever you hung out with him you knew it would be a fun time and that something was going to happen; good or bad. He was always smiling and enjoyed being the center of attention. Mark was one of a kind.

Even while facing cancer, he remained in good spirits and stayed true to himself. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his kindness, talent, unforgettable personality. His memories, storytelling, friendship and love will never be matched; those things will stay with us always.

In honor of Mark’s wishes, there will not be a service. He believed in celebrating life while it is being lived; those who knew and loved him will remember him in that spirit. Godspeed One Love P.O.P.
