Margaret Joy Flatt Williams

Margaret Joy Flatt Williams, 91, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Monday, September 25, 2023, at her residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Tuesday, June 18, 1932, in Gibson County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Howard Flatt and the late Pauline Brown Flatt. Mrs. Williams was a retired assistant librarian for the Dyersburg City School System. She was an active member, for over fifty years, of First Baptist Church in Newbern, Tennessee.

Funeral services for Mrs. Williams will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 1, 2023, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Mark LaRue. Interment will follow in McCorkle Cemetery near Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. 

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband of over seventy-three years, Dr. Billy J. Williams of Newbern, Tennessee; four children, Sharon and Karen both of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Keith (Michelle) of Humboldt, Tennessee and Steve (Lisa) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two brothers Sonny Flatt (Frances) of Tupelo, Mississippi and Richard Flatt (Caffie) of Newbern, Tennessee, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Powers.

Honoring Mrs. Williams as pallbearers will be Paul Flatt, Frederick Flatt, Mike Ingram, Ryan McCurdy, Lincoln Pledge and Jeff Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Newbern First Baptist Church.

The family asks that memorial contributions, be directed to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-9959.
