Leslie Woodrow "Les" Box, 50, of Finley, Tennessee died on Monday, September 1, 2025, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Born on August 25, 1975, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, to the late Walter Leslie "Peanut" Box and the late Marilyn White Wells. He was a self-employed small engine repairman, he enjoyed mowing and was considered a jack-of-all-trades.
Les enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and had a special fondness for being outdoors, especially when fishing on the Mississippi River. He also enjoyed friendly competition—whether at the pool table, where no one dared touch his pool stick, or at the card table, where his competitive spirit always came through.
A good cook, Les loved preparing meals for family gatherings, where food and laughter went hand in hand. He was blessed not only with his biological family but also with a bonus family, both of whom he loved deeply. To his nieces and nephew, he was more than an uncle—he was like a second father. The love they shared was mutual, genuine, and enduring.
Graveside services for Mr. Box will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at McCorkle Cemetery near Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Bro. Mike Waters. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, five brothers, Gary Wells (Misty) of Michigan, Bobby Box (Heather) of Atoka, Tennessee, Doug Box of Newbern, Tennessee, John Box (Tiffany) of RoEllen, Tennessee and Jesse Box (Ashley) of RoEllen, Tennessee; his bonus family that included, his brother by choice, Bubba Stanford of Finley, Tennessee and three sisters by choice. Teresa Jackson (Richie) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Melissa Brooks (Dewayne) of Finley, Tennessee and Joni Ballinger (Brandon) of Finley, Tennessee; his aunt, Reba King (Jeff) of Newbern, Tennessee, he considered his nieces and nephews as his own and his beloved fur baby, his dog Biscuit.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Box and Micheal Box and his dog, Junior.
Honoring Les as pallbearers will be Ryder Clifton, Brandon Box, Colby Ligons, Jonathan Brooks, Brad Brooks and Brandon Ballinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Brody Ballinger, Walt Box and Eli Box.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that any contributions be directed to the funeral home to help cover funeral expenses.
