Leon Milligan, 89, of Germantown, Tennessee died on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Methodist Hospital-Germantown in Germantown, Tennessee.
Born Thursday, March 1, 1934, in Newbern, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Russell Milligan and the late Pearl Elizabeth West Milligan. Mr. Milligan was a graduate of Newbern High School where he was a member of the 1952-1953 “Point a Minute” football team. Mr. Milligan proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Colonial Baking Company, at which had a distinguished 39 year career. It was during his time at Colonial that Leon developed a love for golf. Initially a means to entertain clients, it soon became his passion and he would forge life-long friendships on the golf course. Mr. Milligan has been residing at South Breeze Assisted Living since 2018. After he moved there it wasn’t long before staff and family laughingly called him “The Mayor of South Breeze”. He expected them to toe the line, and sometimes let them know they hadn’t, but loved each one of them. He grew to consider staff like family and cared and worried about them and they returned the love ten times over. He kept in touch with everyone he ever met and everyone loved him. One of his favorite things to do was brag to anyone that would listen about members of the family’s talents and accomplishments. He sure had a huge personality that left a major void in this universe!
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Sandy Wyse of Collierville, Tennessee; one son, Mike Milligan (Sherry) of Bluffton, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Shaunda Stucker (James) of Memphis, Tennessee and Stacy Lowery (Carrie) of Lakeside, California; three great-grandchildren, Erika Stucker, Penelope Lowery and William Lowery; his brother-in-law, Tom Foster (Ann) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; niece, LeAnn Foster Childress (Tony) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and nephew, Scott Foster (Laurie) of Newbern, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Foster Milligan, son-in-law, Dr. Rick Wyse, one brother, Horace Milligan and one sister, Dean Tobey.
Graveside services for Mr. Milligan will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Mr. Tom Foster. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery
