Larry Charles Hicks, 69, passed peacefully to eternal rest on October 13, 2020.
Larry was a lifelong resident of Yorkville and the son of Claude Wiert Hicks, Jr. and Mentia Trimble Hicks
Following high school, Larry attended Dyersburg State Community College and received his B. S. from the University of Tennessee at Martin, with a major in business. He debuted in banking in Rutherford and Yorkville and moved to First Citizens National Bank where he served as Vice-President for many years. He was a long time member of Newbern Rotary, where he served as Treasurer.
He was a member of Yorkville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Being civic minded, he served on the Gibson County Electric Board for many years, the Gibson County School Board and was on the Election Commission for ten years.
Larry was an outstanding basketball player in high school and college. One of his great loves was watching his daughter, Christy and later his three granddaughters continue with that prowess on the basketball court.
He was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting, fishing and his dogs were important to him. When his Los Angeles Dodgers were playing baseball, he was their greatest advocate and loved to watch them succeed. As much as he loved hunting, hunting dogs, fishing, the Dodgers and sports, his greatest love was his family.
Graveside services for Mr. Hicks will be held at 5:30 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Yorkville Cemetery. Officiating this service Mr. Joe Hill and Bro. Mark Pape. Friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of forty-eight years, Debbie Gail Simpson Hicks; two daughters, Debra Denise Hicks, Christy Renee Hicks Hart (Andrew Dye); three grandchildren, Madison Renee Hart, Micah Shea Hart, Jada Madden Hart; one nephew, Mark Todd Miller (Tina) all of Yorkville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Claudia Hicks Miller Paschal and a nephew, Larry Dean Miller.
Pallbearers are Mark Baker, John David Cowan, Brandon Dodds, David Dodds, Andy Dye, Chris Norman, Mike Norman and Frankie Robison. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Hill, Travis Hill, Adam Hill, Phil Bivens, Randy Smith, Jimmy Turner and Johnny Cowan.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Main Street Church of Christ, 306 West Main Street, Newbern, Tennessee 38059.
