Karen Jo Sawyers Obituary

Karen Jo Sawyers, 68, of Dyersburg, Tennessee died on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at her residence in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born Monday, November 12, 1956, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, United States, she was the daughter of the late Joe Taylor and the late Jimmy Carolyn Phillips Hearnsberger. 

For forty-seven years, Mrs. Sawyers was a devoted to her loving husband, Ricky, with whom she built a strong and caring family.  Their times together were filled with joy, shared passions, and countless memories that will forever be treasured.

A dedicated supporter of women's basketball, Mrs. Sawyers was an avid fan of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers and held a deep admiration for the legendary Coach Pat Summitt. Whether it was cheering on the Lady Vols or enjoying any women's basketball game, her passion for the sport was unwavering.

Mrs. Sawyers had a long and successful Career at BanCorp South, where she worked for over two decades.  She retired as the Branch Manager in Ridgely, Tennessee, leaving a legacy of hard work, leadership and kindness that touched many colleagues and customers alike.

Beyond her career, she found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially in the little getaways she and her family took together. She particularly enjoyed trips to Tunica, where she loved playing the slot machines and card games.

Among her greatest joys was her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of devotion, laughter, and shared memories will continue to live in the hearts who loved her.

A celebration of life visitation for Mrs. Sawyers will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Ricky Sawyers of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two sons, Jimmy Lowe of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Ryan Sawyers (Bethany) of Newbern, Tennessee; one daughter, Pennie Bailey (Mike) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two sisters, Kim Woodlan of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Holly Dean of Jackson, Tennessee: she was "Nanny" to her six grandchildren, Cory Bailey, Erin Bailey, Madison Crews (Elijah), Aubree Sawyers, Cooper Sawyers and Eli Sawyers; one great-grand-daughter, Everleigh Crews and her fur baby, her Yorkie, Libby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jamie Lowe and two brothers, Johnny Taylor and Craig Cogdell.
