Joyce Ann Eddlemon Hood, of Kenton, Tennessee, died on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at her residence in Kenton, Tennessee.'
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 5, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Loyas Udell Eddlemon and the late Carolyn Jean Lynch Stanton.
She was affectionately known to all as Mama Joyce and Nana to those that loved her the most. She will be remembered for her legacy of love, strength, and an unmistakable spirit. Joyce truly lived life to the fullest—always wide open and never holding back. She was plainspoken and genuine, and you never had to wonder what was on her mind; her honesty was part of her charm.
Above all, Joyce Ann was deeply loving and caring. Her heart and her home were always open, especially to children who needed a place to feel safe and loved. To many, she was not just a mother or grandmother by blood, but by choice, devotion, and unwavering care.
Joyce Ann embraced life with passion and adventure. She especially enjoyed riding motorcycles, with a fondness for Harleys, finding freedom and joy in the open road. Her bold personality, generous heart, and fearless love will be remembered by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Mrs. Hood will be held on January 31, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at New Concord Baptist Church located at 3672 Concord Road, Kenton, Tennessee 38233.
She is survived by two sons, Shawn Andrew Hood of Kenton, Tennessee and James Jarid Burton of Reelfoot Lake, Tennessee; her grand-daughter that she considered as her daughter, Brittiny Ann Grady of Jackson, Tennessee, one brother, John Robert Eddlemon of Trenton, Tennessee, two sisters, Loyas Jean Eddlemon of Union City, Tennessee and Mary Beth Eddlemon of Newbern, Tennessee and her grand-daughter, Elizabeth Michele O'Lee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Getchell; one daughter Cherie Michele Grady, one son, Matthew Getchell, one sister, Stephanie Faith Eddlemon and stepfather, Paris "Frank" Stanton.
