Johnny Ray, Jr., 64, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Wednesday, November 4, 1959, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Johnny Harwood Ray, Sr. and the late Sue Alice Dean Ray. Mr. Ray was the owner/operator of Sign Express in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He was a member of the Newbern Moose Lodge # 2707 and a former member of the Masonic Lodge # 93.  Mr. Ray will be remembered for sharing his musical talent through the years. He was lead guitarist and vocalist for The Sundowners, The Sons of Country, The Empty Pockets Band and several others. He opened up for multiple country music artists like Joe Nichols, Billy Currington, Chris Cagel and Craig Morgan,

Funeral services for Mr. Ray will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Mr. Josh Tims. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Jason Ray (Leigh) of Newbern, Tennessee; two daughters, Holly Smith (Justin) of Newbern, Tennessee and Emilee Lucas (Peyton) of Union City, Tennessee; his fiancée, Amy Farrow of Newbern, Tennessee; one sister, Marsha Bradford (Terry) of Burlington, North Carolina and he was "Papa" to his twelve grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Christy Spoon and her husband, Patrick.

Honoring Mr. Ray as pallbearers will be Josh Tims, Joel Alonso, Reed Riley, Greg Barr, Farrell Thomas, Hugh Allen, Terry Bradford and Maurice Garrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Ray, Cooper Smith, Knox Smith, Lincoln Lucas, Caden Hardy and Bryan Mabry.
