John W. Cook Obituary

John W. Cook, 85,of Trimble, Tennessee died on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Volunteer Hospital in Martin, Tennessee.

Born Monday, March 18, 1935 in Trimble, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Perry James Cook and the late Marie Henson Cook. He attended Trimble School, Dyersburg State, Nashville Auction School and the Certified Auctioneers Institute.

Mr. Cook was a farmer, swimming pool builder, auctioneer/real estate broker, tool company owner and inventor, holding patents at the United States Office Of Patents. He was the Past President of The Tennessee Auctioneers Association, member of The Tennessee Auctioneers Hall of Fame and set records in Tennessee for farm auction dollar volume.

Funeral services for Mr. Cook will be 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Trimble, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Dr. Rick Isbell and Dr. Bill Oakley, Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 2:00 PM until service time at First Baptist Church in Trimble, Tennessee.

He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Douglas W. Cook (Greysy) of Jackson, Tennessee, Dennis W. Cook (Michelle) of Jackson, Tennessee and Bradley Cook (Cindi) of Union City, Tennessee one daughter, Debra Cook Jenkins of Union City, Tennessee and one sister, Paula  Tidwell (Duane) of Trimble, Tennessee.  He was known by his fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as "Poppy", Poppito" or "Grand Poppy."

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, of sixty four years, Dona Jean Walker Cook; one great-grandchild; two brothers, James M. Cook and Gayle Franklin Cook and two sisters, Margaret Cook Morris and Iva May Cook Pope.

Honoring Mr. Cook as pallbearer will be Jerry Ring, David Ring, Rudy Page, Norman Hall, Jim Cook, Bryan Sykes, Bryan Pope and Bruce Pope. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Ray Fagan, Ricky Whitson and Allen Nohsey.

The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Trimble First Baptist Church, 139 East Pierce Street, Trimble, Tennessee 38259 or St. Jude Children's Hospital,501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-9959.
