John Thomas Woods

John Thomas Woods, 71, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Friday, September 28, 1951, in Lexington, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Martin Woods and the late Lucille Scott Woods. Mr. Woods was a retired Lieutenant with the Dyersburg Fire Department , where he worked for thirty-one years.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Woods was an avid fisherman.

Funeral services for Mr. Woods will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2023, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Bro. Billy Brooks. Interment will follow in  Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation for Mr. Woods will be held on Friday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Hope G. Woods, of Newbern, Tennessee; one son, John Kevin Woods (Dana) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter, Christie Renne Glynn (Richard) of Newbern, Tennessee; two brothers, Hugh Woods (Kim) of Kingman, Arizona and Charles Woods (Jackie) of Fort Valley, Georgia and he was "PawPaw John" to his five grandchildren, Ethan Woods, Sterling Glynn, Kaitlin Buchanan (Scott), Michael Ashley and Blake Ashley and one great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Graves.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Faye Woods and two brothers, James H. Woods and Darrell F. Woods.

Honoring Mr. Woods as pallbearers will be Johnny Castellaw, Jeff Green, Phillip Williams, Mike Carman, Shane Moore and Brian Ramm.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dyersburg Fire Department.
