John D. Shawver, Sr. Obituary

John D. Shawver, Sr., 72, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

Born Monday, December 13, 1948 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, he was the son of the late Ivan L. Shawver and the late Mary Edna Jones Shawver. He was a truck driver for over fifty years with  twenty-one of those years at Colonial Rubber Works of Dyersburg and twenty nine years with Averitt Express. Mr. Shawver proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team.

Funeral services for Mr. Shawver will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 11, 2021 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Mr. Dewey Shawver. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Brenda Shawver of Newbern, Tennessee; three sons, John Douglas Shawver, Jr. of Middletown, New York, James Gordon Shawver (Penny) of Millsfield, Tennessee and Charles Douglas Shawver of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one step-son, Jimmy Ozment, Jr. (Julie) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two brothers, Larry Shawver (Melissa) of Fowlkes, Tennessee and Dewey Shawver (Cindy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one sister, Annie Riley of Dyersburg, Tennessee; he was "Papaw" to his seven grandchildren, Anthony Shawver, Kelsey Shawver, Hunter Ozment, Cameron Ozment, Ryder Ozment, Paxton Campbell and Courtnie Shawver and one great-grandson, Keeten Ozment and another great-grandson who will join the family in March, Koleson Ozment.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Shawver and two sisters, Debbie Woodard and Peggy Lawson.

Honoring Mr. Shawver as pallbearers will be Anthony Shawver, Hunter Ozment, Cameron Ozment, Ted Lowe, Clint Shawver and James Shawver. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Shawver and Ryder Ozment.
