Joann Biggs Poore, age 73, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, October 5 th at her home in
Cordova, TN after battling cancer for 18 months.
Joann was born February 12, 1947 in Dyersburg, TN to the late Mr. Asa Dean Biggs and Mrs. Bonnie
Bumpus Biggs. Joann was a graduate of Dyersburg High School where she enjoyed cheerleading, was
active on several other committees within the school, and on the Miss DHS court.
Joann then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Memphis State University. She served as a Speech
Pathologist in various Memphis City Schools for over forty years, and also worked with the Sylan
Learning Center where she would tutor children after school.
In her spare time, Joann enjoyed playing Bridge. There was always a card game going, either with close
friends, or with various Bridge groups across the city. In addition to Bridge, Joann enjoyed her Garden
Club, as well as reading, watching classic movies, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Joann is survived by her son, Scott Elliott Poore (Meredith) of Memphis; and two grandchildren, Scott
Elliott Poore, Jr. and Gordon Biggs Poore.
The family will be having a private graveside service in Dyersburg, TN.
