Jeannie Carol Williams Seratt, 76, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at her residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Monday, September 8, 1947, in Gary, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. Williams and the late Mary Virginia Mallard Williams. Mrs. Seratt started her career with Dyer County Credit Bureau before she found her true calling which was loving and nurturing children. "Miss Jeannie" was a childcare worker for many years. All the children loved her. She could work magic with young children and had a way of making each child feel loved and needed. In 1996, she started her childcare career working for the Dyer County HeadStart and along the way she was employed with the El Paso, Texas WMU Nursery, Tiptonville Tiny Tykes and Dyersburg Tiny Tykes before she established The TLC Learning Center Preschool in Newbern in 1984. This career spanned over forty years and during this time she touched many lives that will forever be grateful for her guidance.
Mrs. Seratt served as President of the Tiptonville Jr. Woman's Club, President of the Dyersburg Sweet Adelines, President of the Newbern PTO, Secretary of the NW Association for Young Children and was the Regional Representative for FCCLA. She received the Award for Excellence in Education from the Dyer County Legislative Body in 1986. In 2004 she was named to the National Who's Who in Exec. and Professionals and in 2005 she was recognized in the Madison Who's Who. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Visitation for Mrs. Seratt will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of fifty-six years, Daniel Curtis Seratt of Newbern, Tennessee; three sons, David Seratt (Dahvia) of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Jason Seratt (Rita) of Seminole, Texas and Michael Seratt (Joni) of Maryville, Tennessee; one daughter, Kaeli Parrish (Andrew) of Newbern, Tennessee, one niece, Ginger Waddell ; one nephew, Jonathan Pence and she was "Nene" to her twelve grandchildren, Barron Seratt, Nolan Seratt, Taya Seratt, Ethan Seratt (Melea), Kilee Seratt, Braedyn Seratt, Annalee Seratt, Andrew Seratt, Quintyn Powell, Ian Powell, Atticus Parrish and Emma Parrish and her three great-grandchildren, Addison, Lacey and Avery Jane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley McRenolds.
The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-9959.
