James Lloyd Cox, 83, formerly of Olive Branch, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Signature Healthcare in Ridgely, Tennessee.
Born Friday, May 22, 1942, in East Prairie, Missouri, he was the son of the late James Franklin Cox and the late Coleela Fowler Cox. Though born in East Prairie, he was raised in Lake County, Tennessee, and spent most of his life in the Memphis, Tennessee area before returning to his roots in recent years.
Mr. Cox was a retired glass framer and installer, a trade that took him across the country. Throughout his career, he worked on numerous notable projects, including at the University of Arkansas, hospitals in the Memphis area, and the Grand Casino in Tunica. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he spent much of his time stationed in Germany.
He was an avid fan of University of Memphis athletics and was a longtime season ticket holder for the football team, which he especially loved and supported. While he also enjoyed Memphis basketball, his true passion was cheering on the football Tigers.
Graveside services for Mr. Cox will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Mr. John Wakefield. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.
He is survived by his niece Sue Wakefield (John) of Newbern, Tennessee, who lovingly cared for him; a niece, Betty Crowe of White Bluff, Tennessee, whom he considered as a sister; and two nephews Eugene Flowers of Ridgely, Tennessee and Mike Flowers (Ann) of Knoxville, Tennessee and a host of additional nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Faye Cox; three sisters; and three brothers.
