Gregory Scott "Scott" French Obituary

Gregory Scott "Scott" French, 61, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

Born Saturday, July 4, 1964, in Landsdale, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George Glen French and the late Marie Kyle French.

Scott was a respected businessman, entrepreneur, and friend to many throughout the community. He was the proud owner and operator of Hog Heaven and also owned and operated French’s Catering for thirty-six years. Alongside his beloved wife, Cindy, they worked side by side building successful businesses through hard work, dedication, and kindness. Together, they greeted every client with a smile and made countless friendships along the way.

Scott was a man of many talents. He was an excellent drummer and for many years shared his love for the Lord through music as a member of Hippy Band-Message HGB, helping spread God’s message throughout the community. He was also a valued member of The Lighthouse Assembly Praise Team, where he faithfully served alongside Cindy. Scott was a devoted member of The Lighthouse Assembly of God Church for many years, where his faith and servant’s heart were evident to all who knew him.

Scott also had a true gift in the kitchen. Cooking brought him great joy, especially when preparing meals for his family. His family often said that everything he cooked was delicious, making it nearly impossible to choose a favorite. Some of the meals they loved most were his quiche, prime rib, and seven-layer salad, though every dish he made was prepared with love and care.

Outside of work and church, Scott enjoyed playing golf and made many lasting friendships on the course. He especially loved spending time golfing with Cindy and other family members. More than anything, Scott cherished the moments shared with his family — whether it was on the golf course, taking family trips to Florida, gathering around a meal he had prepared, or simply being together. Those memories will forever be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life Service for Scott will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at The Lighthouse Assembly of God Church located at 900 Williams Street in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Mr. David Turner and Pastor Keith Wysong. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at The Lighthouse Assembly of God Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of forty-two years, Cindy Mabry French of Newbern, Tennessee; one son, Nick French (Ryan) of Franklin, Kentucky, one daughter, Rachel Landry (Cory) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two sisters, Dana Simpson (Chris) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Nicole French of Dyersburg, Tennessee and he was "Papa" to his four grandchildren, Layla, Lana, Corbin and Carter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard G. French.
