Gertie Joyce Douglas

Gertie Joyce Douglas, 89, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at her residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Friday, May 12, 1933, in Newbern, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Pledge and the late Lela Belle Harrison Pledge. Mrs. Douglas was a homemaker. She was a dedicated member of First Assembly of God, where she served as teacher in the Missionette program for many years. Mrs. Douglas also worked in the children’s nursery.

Graveside services for Mrs. Douglas will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Mr. James Adair. Visitation for Mrs. Douglas will be from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern, Tennessee.

She leaves to cherish her memory. one son, Michael Douglas (Terry) of Newbern, Tennessee; one daughter, Melinda Caricio (Aniceto) of Newbern, Tennessee and she was a loving "Mema" to her six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Douglas; sisters, Annie Lou Dennison, and Helen Bradford; brothers, Robert Pledge, Burton Pledge and Aaron Pledge and great granddaughter, Abagail Maxedon.

Honoring Mrs. Douglas as pallbearers will be Matthew Douglas, Tyler Douglas, Brandon Douglas, Justin Godwin, Logan Tivey, Dalton Maxedon, Morgen Douglas, Jason Maxedon and Jimmy Maupin.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ty Maupin, Joshua Godwin, and Jacoby Godwin.
