Obituary

Gerald W. Younger, 85, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at his residence in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born Wednesday, March 9, 1938, in Polk, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Clifford Ernest Younger and the late Lessie Jewell Shelby Younger. Mr. Younger was a retired Track Inspector and Foreman of  the Dyersburg Yard for the Illinois Central Railroad and CNN Railroad. He was a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ.  Mr. Youngers was a sixty year plus member of the Brotherhood Maintenance of Ways Teamsters Union. The times that he enjoyed the most were those spent with his family,especially traveling. Eight weeks before his death he and his wife had completed visits to all fifty states.

Funeral services for Mr. Younger will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Clyde Thompson. Interment will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City, Tennessee. Visitation for Mr. Younger will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-six years, Barbara Henderson Younger of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one son, Vincent Younger (Pam) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter, Kathy Binkley (Tommy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; he was "Grandpa" to his three grandchildren, Kim Mullins (Tim), Chad Binkley (Christy) and Michelle Yarbrough (Trevor) and five great-grandchildren, Luke Mullins, Reagan Binkley, Sean Yarbrough and Peyton Yarbrough and a special family member,  Carol Binkley of Dyersburg, Tennessee

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Byron Criswell; one grand-daughter, Shalea Geron Criswell and one sister, Juanita Harris.

Honoring Mr. Younger as pallbearers will be Shane Stanford, Randy Golden, Jimmy Sutherland, Luke Mullins, Sean Yarbrough, Sam Sutherland, Corbin Snow and  Matt Mendenhall.

To honor the memories that the Younger Family shared just a few weeks ago in Lahaina, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the Maui Strong Foundation,% of  the Hawaii Community Foundation, 827 Fort Street Mall, Honolulu, HI  96813 or the Maui Humane Society, P. O. Box 1047, Puunene, Hawaii 96784. Local contributions may be directed to Christ Classical Academy, 1005 US Highway 51 Ny-Pass, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024.
