George Mooney Dial, affectionately known as “Little George” to his family and friends, 62, of Union City, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Born Wednesday, April 24, 1963, in Memphis, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James Robert "Jimmy" Daniels and Virginia Mooney Dial Chappell. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, George and Virginia Dial who was known as "Papa" and "Mama" to all.
To know Little George was to have a story to tell. He had a personality bigger than life itself — bold, unforgettable, and full of character. Often referred to simply as “a good man,” he lived life on his own terms. He could be a little rough around the edges at times, but beneath that tough exterior was a heart as big as they come. Those who truly knew him knew his loyalty, his generosity, and his willingness to help when it mattered most.
Little George was a skilled diesel mechanic and truck driver — a vocation he truly loved. He took great pride in his work and the friendships he built along the way. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Tokai Carbon in Hickman, Kentucky, where his strong work ethic and dedication were well known.
He had a deep love for fast classic cars. He also found great joy in the outdoors. Some of his happiest moments were spent fishing and duck hunting on Reelfoot Lake, a place that held many memories and peaceful mornings. Whether casting a line at sunrise or waiting quietly in a duck blind, he treasured the beauty and stillness of the outdoors.
He was a faithful member of Living Word Church in Hornbeak, Tennessee, where he found fellowship and community. His presence there, much like everywhere else he went, was known and felt.
Little George leaves behind a lifetime of memories — laughter shared, stories told, and lessons learned. Though he may be gone from our sight, the countless “Little George” stories will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His larger-than-life spirit, his love for the outdoors, and his unmistakable personality will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Dial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Living Word Church located at 252 N. Main Street in Hornbeak, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. Archie Larry. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at the church.
He is survived by his daughter, Meleah Georgiann Dial of Union City, Tennessee; his best friend and companion of eighteen years, Michelle Rose of Union City, Tennessee; his mother, Virginia Mooney Dial Chappell of Dyersburg, Tennessee; son by choice, Chad Tettleton (Tamara) of Obion, Tennessee; two daughters by choice, Mallory Scott of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Racheal Hutcheson of Obion, Tennessee; two brothers, John Franklin Tucker IV (Karen) of Springfield, Tennessee and Byron Montgomery "Monty" Mooney ( Robin) of Union City, Tennessee; one sister, LuRenda Louise Upchurch of Dyersburg, Tennessee; three nieces, Virginia Lizabeth Nagy , Emmalee Jade Ladd and Elizabeth Mooney Miller; two nephews, Hunter Drake “Bug” Tucker and Jeremy Ryan Williams; and he was “Papa George” to his two grandchildren, Luca McMinn and Anniston McMinn. He loved his dogs, Bella and Rebel, as if they were his children, and they were his constant, devoted, and faithful companions.
