George Edward Cottrell, 78, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Wednesday, May 10, 1944, in Blue America, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William Edward "Bill" Cottrell and the late Pat Dunivant Cottrell Hickerson. Mr. Cottrell was the owner of Newbern Machine and Welding. He was a former member of the Newbern Volunteer Fire Department for forty-eight years, where he served as an Assistant Chief for many years. Mr. Cottrell was also a former member of the Newbern Jaycees.
Graveside services Mr. Cottrell will be at 3:30 PM on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Mr. Perry Nichols. Friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of thirty-one years, Diane Walker Cottrell of Newbern, Tennessee; two sons, Phillip Cottrell (Amy) of Newbern, Tennessee, and Trevor Cottrell (Cindy) of Trimble, Tennessee; one daughter, Leannda Banks of Hendersonville, Tennessee; one sister, Janie Clements of Orlando, Florida; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Don Cottrell, one sister, Katie Winchester and one daughter, Rhonda Wright.
Honoring Mr. Cottrell as pallbearers will be Trevor Cottrell, Phillip Cottrell, Barry Cottrell, Dillon Cottrell, Terry Wright, and Richard Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Kosark, Delbert Webb, Darrell Autry, and Jerry Goodman.
