Gene A. Austin, 82, of Dyersburg, Tennessee died on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Ethridge House in Union City, Tennessee.
Born Saturday, September 17, 1938 in Dyer County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late L. M. Austin and the late Evelyn Rebecca Zarecor Austin. Mr. Austin graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.S. in Agriculture. He was an innovator in business finance, working with John Hancock for thirty years, where he developed the Agri-Business Department. After his retirement he enjoyed farming. He was an avid Vols Fan and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
Graveside services for Mr. Austin will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Pastor Jerry Drace. Friends are asked to gather at the graveside. Visitation for Mr. Austin will be Saturday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, of fifty-six years, Carolyn "Cack" Anderson Austin of Dyersburg, Tennessee; three sons, Robert Allen Austin of Bardwell, Kentucky, Jon Larkin Austin of Martin, Tennessee and Ed Austin of Memphis, Tennessee; one brother, Bobby Tillman Austin of Katawa, Kentucky; one sister, Jo-Evelyn Mehr of Nashville, Tennessee and he was "Paw" to his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild with a great-grandson to join the family soon.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Carpenter.
Honoring Mr. Austin as pallbearers will be Tyler Austin, Todd Austin, Taylor Austin, Larkin Austin, Alex Austin, Garrett Austin and Sam Austin.
