Eva Jeanette Lacy

Jeanette Lacy, 83. of Newbern Tennessee, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born Friday, October 30, 1942, in Dyer County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Lodus Gourley and the late Eva Marcella Spain Gourley.

Mrs. Lacy dedicated many years of her life as a custodian with Dyersburg City Schools, faithfully serving at Dyersburg Intermediate School. She took great pride in her work and truly loved being around the children. Through her daily interactions, she became much more than a staff member—she was a positive role model, offering encouragement, warmth, and a caring presence to all who crossed her path.

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Mrs. Lacy lived her faith openly and wholeheartedly. She never missed an opportunity to share the love of Christ with others, and her life was a reflection of her deep and abiding belief.

Above all, she cherished her family. Her love for them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was evident in all she did. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including spending time outdoors and tending to her flowers, which she nurtured with the same care and love she gave to those around her. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Lacy will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ, located at 120 Hamer Road, Dyersburg, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Bro. Jerry Stafford, Interment will follow in Church Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.  

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Lloyd "Bugger" Lacy of Newbern, Tennessee; two sons, James Dowdy of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Jackie Newhouse of Birmingham, Alabama; two daughters, Lavita Davenport (Teddy Hill) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Julia Hall of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two-step-daughters, Kathy Johnson (Matt) of Newbern, Tennessee and Penny Austin (Ronnie) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one  brother, Burnie Gourley (Barbara) of Obion, Tennessee and she was "Ninnie" to her eleven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Mike Gourley, Charles Gourley and Dossie Gourley, and one sister, Joann Martin.

Honoring Mrs. Lacy as pallbearers will be Billy Bates, Jeremy Ables, Tim Brewer, Tyler Brewer and Jacob Headley
