Emma Jean Simpson, 85, of Dyersburg, Tennessee died on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Born Saturday, May 18,1934 in Newbern, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Grady Poor and the late Tula Journey Poor. Ms. Simpson was a retired teacher for the Dyer County School System and spent most of her teaching career at Bogota School. She was a member of The Sanctuary Church.
Given current national conditions and the family's concern for the health and well-being of other, private graveside services for Ms. Simpson will be held Sunday at Church Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. Ron Lovins. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
She is survived by three daughters, Jane Peery (Randy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Joan Huie of Denver, Colorado and Tina Watson (Dennis) of Friendship, Tennessee; two brothers, John Poor (Brenda) of Troy, Tennessee and Grady Poor, Jr, of Illinois; one sister, Joyce Ann Bell (Jerry) of Union City, Tennessee; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Skip Simpson; one son-in-law,Terry Hyde; three brothers, Bob Poor, Leon Poor and Harold Poor ;one sister, Mary Avant and a great-grandson, Lukas Allen Simpson.
