Douglas Eugene "Doug" Bettencourt, Jr. Obituary

Douglas Eugene "Doug" Bettencourt, Jr., 55, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born Wednesday, March 25, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Douglas Eugene Bettencourt, Sr. and the late Patricia Diane Gray Bettencourt.

He was a loving husband who treasured his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren, creating memories that will be held close forever.

Doug was a dedicated and hardworking machinist. He was employed with Bennett’s Tool and Die for the past ten years, and prior to that worked for Eaton for thirteen years. He was known for his skill, dependability, and pride in his work.

Doug enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved cooking, especially firing up his Pit Boss to prepare meals for family and friends. He found joy in riding four-wheelers and spending time outdoors. A devoted sports fan, he was a huge supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide, cheering them on every Saturday.

He was incredibly proud of his sons and their service with the Dyer County Fire Department, often sharing how honored he was of their dedication and commitment to helping others.

To honor Doug's passion for Public Safety, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to "Firefighter's Fund" at Simmons Bank in memory of Doug Bettencourt.
