Doris Spence Sanders Obituary

Doris Spence Sanders, 102, of Newbern, Tennessee died Sunday, October 10, 2021 at her residence.

She was born Thursday, April 17, 1919 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, and was the daughter of the late Collie Marshall Spence, Sr. and the late Nora Thompson Spence.

She was an owner and bookkeeper of the Western Auto Store in Newbern, Tennessee for forty-six years, a member of First Christian Church, member of the Order of Easter Star for fifty plus years, a volunteer for the Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Program and a former member of the Newbern PTA.

Committal service and interment will be graveside at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee with Mr. Eric Maupin officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. on Thursday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

She is survived by her son, John Marshall Sanders of Newbern, Tennessee; two sisters, Betty Spence Lowery of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Sandra Spence of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two brothers, Collie Marshall Spence, Jr. of Smyrna, Tennessee and Dr. John Wess Spence (Alpha) of Monroe, Louisiana and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy N. Sanders; two sisters, Merion Spence Parks and Virginia Spence O'Malley and three brothers, Captain Jere C. Spence, Huey A. Spence and Louis M. Spence.

Honoring Mrs. Sanders as pallbearers will be David Spence, Spence Lowery, Hunter Spence, Mark Spence, Jeff Jones and Larry Maupin.  Honorary pallbearers will be K. W. Dennison, Derek Holyfield and Haskins Ridens, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P. O. Box # 1000, Department 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9908 or to the donor's favorite charity.
