Donald Wayne Dudley, 78, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital Jackson, Tennessee.
Born on Wednesday, April 9, 1947, in Dyer County, Tennessee, to the late Richard Dudley and the late Lula Mae Warmath Dudley.
Mr. Dudley was a man with a joyful spirit and a heart for people. He worked for many years as a tractor mechanic for Tri-County Equipment before retiring from Sara Lee Foods. He will be remembered for his warm personality and infectious smile. He never met a stranger—whether you were a lifelong friend or someone he had just met, he was quick to make you feel welcome. He loved to share a good laugh, often telling his favorite joke: he’d ask, “Which part of the chicken has the most feathers?” When no one could quite answer—or perhaps they were just too afraid to guess—he’d grin and say, “The outside,” with a gleam in his eye and that unforgettable smile.
One of his favorite places to visit was Chick-fil-A, where he could often be found striking up conversations with anyone nearby. Before long, he’d made another friend. His caring heart shone through as he frequently offered to pray for others, whether at the restaurant or wherever he felt someone needed encouragement.
Mr. Dudley was a devoted member of Volunteer Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as song leader until his health declined. He also gave his time to his community as a member of the Millsfield Fire Department and the Shade Tree Tractor Club.
Funeral services for Mr. Dudley will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Billy Tucker. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Sue Ann Fair Dudley of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one son, Allen Wayne Dudley (Melissa) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; daughter, Donna Ann Mills (Richard) of Somerville, Tennessee; his sister-by-choice, Mary Goodman of Dyersburg, Tennessee and he was "PawPaw" and "Mrs. Don" to his nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, with one to soon join the family in January.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Thomas Dudley.
Honoring Mr. Dudley as pallbearers will be Matthew Mills, JMichael Glover, Lane Crawford, Jonathan Dudley, Sawyer Dudley, Hunter Glover, Blake Kirby and Chad Kirby. Honorary pallbearers will be MaKayla Crawford and Emily Mills.
