Don Council

Don Council, 93, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Maple Ridge Manor in Dyersburg,Tennessee.

Born Wednesday, June 10, 1925, in Newbern, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Donnell Council and the late Dolly Grisham Council.

Mr. Council served in the United States Army during WWII, was a retired employee of International Harvester in Memphis, Tennessee, he then returned to Newbern to farm. He was a founding member, long time deacon of Emmaus Baptist Church, and a member of Dyersburg Choral Society.

Funeral services for Mr. Council will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 1, 2018, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Mr. Chuck Morgan. Interment will follow in Church Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be Friday, August 31, 2018, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He is survived by one daughter, Donnis Pace (David) of Cordova, Tennessee; two sons, Kelly Council (Sandy) of Waynesville, North Carolina and Dave Council (Joan) of Newbern, Tennessee; one brother, James Council of Newbern, Tennessee; five grandchildren and five great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Fuqua Council and five sisters, Tommie Greer, Hazel Wells, Christine Hillegeer, Janie Pardue and Sue Jones.

Pallbearers will be Jake Pace, Will McKee, Brian McLemore, Barry Davis, Chris Jones, Dean Pace and Jay Johnson.

The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the Dyer County Community Cancer Fund, P.O. Box # 1055, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38025-1055.
