Debera Jane Cashion Buckelew, 73, of Dyer, Tennessee, died on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Born Wednesday, May 6, 1953, in Lake County, Tennessee, she was one of eleven children born to the late Isom Cox. Sr. and the late Lula Jane "Janie" Stokes Cox.
Mrs. Buckelew devoted her life to caring for others through her work as a nurse. She began her nursing career as an LPN at Obion County General Hospital in Union City, Tennessee, and faithfully continued serving there for twenty-six years after the hospital became Baptist Hospital in Union City. She later retired from Northwest Tennessee Correctional Facility, where she continued to provide compassionate care and comfort to those in need. She was known for her caring heart, dedication, and kindness by the many lives that touched throughout the years.
Beyond her career, Mrs. Buckelew treasured time spent with her family and loved creating special memories together. She enjoyed playing cards, especially spirited games of Rummy, which brought laughter and joy to family gatherings.
Funeral services for Mrs. Buckelew will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Julian Huey. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, John Cashion of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter, Krisie Huey (Jason) of Kenton, Tennessee; her twin sister, Gloria Jean Meagher of Jackson, Tennessee, she was "MeMe" to her three grandsons, Josh Huey, Luke Huey and Levi Huey, her constant companion, her poodle Dollie and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Michael Buckelew; five brothers, Rufus Franklin "Rudy" Cox, Isom Chester Cox, James Clifton Cox, David "Gary" Cox and Danny Gerald Cox and four sisters, Dorothy Odean Bryson, Shirley Ann Cooper, Wanda Fay Cox and Sharon Gail Edwards.
Honoring Mrs. Buckelew as pallbearers will be Josh Huey, Luke Huey, Levi Huey, Justin Huey, Phillip Cashion and Frank Goodman.
