David Richard Stack, 73, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at his residence.
Born Saturday, May 3, 1952, in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of the late Harold Stack and the late Lynn James Purvis.
David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism. Following his service, he continued to live life with honor and purpose, carrying himself with the quiet strength of a true cowboy.
He found joy in riding horses and had a lifelong passion for rodeos. David considered himself a cowboy in every sense of the word, and he embraced that identity with pride. He was happiest when surrounded by the open countryside, a good horse, or a classic western movie playing on the screen.
Though he had no children of his own, David was a devoted father figure to his nieces and nephews, who adored him. He was always quick with a smile, a kind word, or a sweet treat — often shared on the sly, even when everyone knew they probably weren’t supposed to have it. His loving, generous spirit left a mark on everyone he met.
Cremation services for Mr. Stack are under the direction of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Funeral services and interment will be held at Parker's Crossroad VA Cemetery at a later date.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, by choice, Dawnalyn Wallis of Newbern, Tennessee; five sisters, Kelly Grijalva (John) of Newbern, Tennessee, Shere Keegan of Arizonia, Kathy Luckerman (Steve) of Arizonia, Leslie Louden of Tennessee and Debbie Lamb (Joe) of Alabama; one step-sister, Carol Dykstra; two step-brothers, Donald Hadden of Alabama and Mel Hadden of Alabama and a host of extended family members that loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Stephen Stack.
