Corene Ashley Sharpe

Corene Ashley Sharpe, 90,  of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Friday, April 10, 2026, at her residence.

Born Friday, June 14, 1935, in Newbern, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster "Webb" Ashley and the late Lyda Mae Brown Ashley.

Mrs. Sharpe was a retired employee of All-Wear/Wrangler in Newbern, where she was known for her strong work ethic and the friendships she built while working there/

A devoted member of Glendale Church of Christ for more than sixty years. She found great joy in serving others and especially loved teaching both the Children’s and Women’s Bible classes. Sharing God’s word and nurturing others in their faith was something she truly cherished and took great pride in.

A talented seamstress, Mrs. Sharpe found great joy in creating beautiful, frilly dresses, especially for her granddaughter, Rosa. 

Alongside her husband, Bobby, she was well known for their bountiful gardens. She took pride in canning and freezing the vegetables they grew. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, especially during cherished Sunday dinners, where family gathered to enjoy her cooking and time together.

Mrs. Sharpe was a wonderful cook, remembered fondly for her delicious fried quail, lemon pies, and homemade fudge—meals and treats that brought joy to all who shared her table 

Graveside services for Mrs. Sharpe will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Church Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Bro. Serge Shoemaker. Visitation for Mrs. Sharpe will be held on Monday from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. 

She is survived by  one son, Marty Sharpe (Sheila) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two daughters, Brenda Carter (Tim) of Newbern, Tennessee and Jacque Hammons of Dyersburg, Tennessee; three brothers, Jerry Ashley (Trish)of Nashville, Tennessee, Randy Ashley (Sharon) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Glenn Ashley of Newbern, Tennessee; two sisters, Patsy Perry of Newbern, Tennessee and JoAnn Peevyhouse of Kansas and she was "Granny" to her three grandchildren, Justin Vestal, Ross Carter, and Rosa Castleman (Jesse) and three great grandchildren, Carlee Castleman, Allie Carter, and Baylee Castleman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of sixty four years, Robert Allen "Bobby" Sharpe; four brothers, Don Ashley, Bobby Ashley, Charles Ashley and James Ashley; and seven sisters, Betty Ashley, Katie Nail,  Laverne Hannah , Margaret Harrison, Louise Sutter, Jewell Dunivant and Lorene A. Pruett.

Honoring Mrs. Sharpe as pallbearers will be Tim Carter, Ross Carter, Harold Dunivant, Richard Dunivant, Mike Pruitt, Terry Peevyhouse, Mike McCullough and Jesse Castleman. Honorary pallbearer will be Justin Vestal.
