Cecil C. Armstrong Obituary

It is with personal sadness but great eternal joy that the family of Cecil C. Armstrong, 87, of
Dyersburg, TN, announces his homegoing on June 19, 2025, after a brief illness.

Along with countless friends, Cecil will be missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol Canada
Armstrong; his daughters, Jane (Jerald) Ogg and Cathy (Terry) Hollingsworth; his son, Greg
(Michelle) Armstrong; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Ogg Wilson, Jana Ogg, Matt (Anna)
Hollingsworth, Megan (Collin) Armstrong Sharpe and Colin (Abby) Armstrong; his great-
grandchildren, Boone and Max Anderson and Maya Hollingsworth; his sister, Polly (Mac)
McCandless; his nephews, Clay (Mair) McPherson, Jim (Sheila) Jacobi and Steve (Christi)
Jacobi; his nieces, Sara McPherson Girard, Dainese McPherson, Donna (Bruce) Pruitt
Campagna, Julie Pruitt, Cheryl (Tony) Armstrong McClure, Emily Armstrong McDaniel and
Debbie (David) Hay Ford; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Canada Hay.

Cecil was born on August 17, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester C.
Armstrong and Connie Jones Armstrong; his brother, David Armstrong; his sisters, Lavenia
McPherson and Teresa Maitland; his sister-in-law, Mary Jacobi; his brothers-in-law, Jim Jacobi
and Aubrey Hay; and his niece, Cindy Hay.

An energetic entrepreneur who worked into his 80s, Cecil owned Delta Drayage in Dyersburg,
Cecil’s Leadway Grocery in Friendship, TenArKyMo in Friendship/Halls, and American
Manufacturers Agency in Dyersburg. He also proudly served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
and his country; he retired as a major after 21 years in the Tennessee National Guard and was an
active leader at First Christian, Tucker Street and Christ’s Church Baptist Fellowship churches.

Known for both his love of a good story and mischievous sense of humor, Cecil was an avid
golfer who played daily, often twice, at Oakview Links in Newbern, TN. He also enjoyed his
role as unofficial mayor of the NAPA Saturday Morning Men’s Breakfast Club, and he was
happy to dust off his dancing skills and “cut a rug” with his beloved Carol at Megan and Collin’s
March wedding. He was a dedicated youth baseball coach for 20 years and a huge NFL fan who
hosted a Super Bowl party every year since 1988; his deepest devotion, however, was to Jesus
Christ and his family. He joined his Lord while listening to two hymns, and his legacy will
continue for generations to come.

A celebration of Cecil’s life will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Johnson-
Williams Funeral Home in Newbern. Officiating this service will be Bro. Jeremy Ballinger.
Visitation will be at Johnson-Williams from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. preceding the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Paving Lot Fund of Christ’s
Church Baptist Fellowship, 5774 Millsfield Highway, Dyersburg, TN 38024.
