Cathy Mae Fortner, 75 of Dyersburg, Tennessee died on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at her residence in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Born, August 25, 1949, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Edward Doyle Fortner and the late May Helen Stevens Fortner. Ms. Fortner was a former employee of Goodwill. She was a dedicated member of Northside Church of Jesus Christ for twenty-six years. She will be remembered as a loving, generous person, who would provide Bibles to her church for those who needed them and also for new converts. Ms. Fortner would faithfully read her Bible daily and would encourage others to do the same. She enjoyed playing games on her phone, but the times that she cherished the most were those spent with her family.
Funeral services for Ms. Fortner will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Northside Church of Jesus Christ. Officiating this service will be Bro. Ray Winstead. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the Northside Church of Jesus Christ.
She is survived by three sons, Alvin Wayne Walls, Jr. (Cindy) of Finley, Tennessee, Dewayne Edward Walls (Stacy) of Newbern, Tennessee and Keith Carter Walls (Tina) of Newbern, Tennessee two brothers, Charles Edward Fortner (Pat) of Chester Virginia and Mark Elliott Fortner (Peggy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; brother-in-law Bud Middleton of Dyersburg, Tennessee and sister-in-law, Debbie Fortner of Newbern, Tennessee and she was "Granny Cat" to her nineteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora Ann Holcomb and Debra Gail Middleton and one brother, Jerry Lynn Fortner.
Honoring Ms. Fortner as pallbearers will be Keith Walls, Blake Fortner, Mark Fortner, August Walls, Robert Blevins and Elijah May. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim and Theresa Flatt.
The family would like to say a special thank you to her brother and sister-in -law, Mark and Peggy Fortner and her nephew, Blake Fortner and his wife, Emily for the loving and care that they gave Cathy.
