C. L. Cunningham

C. L. Cunningham, 83, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Tuesday, April 16, 1940, in Cloverdale, Tennessee, he was one of the fourteen children born to the late Robert Hayden Cunningham and the late Willie Ophelia Rainey Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham was a retired foremen with the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation. He also enjoyed raising cows and goats. The times that enjoyed the most were the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Mr. Mike Douglas. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation for Mr. Cunningham will be held on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-eight years, Sylvia Pledge Cunningham of Newbern, Tennessee; one son, Robert Chad Cunningham (Jill) of Newbern, Tennessee; two daughters, Gina Berry (Eddie) of Huntington, Indiana and Deb Woods (Jonathan Hime) of Kenton, Tennessee and he was "Pappy" to his six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Robert Cunningham, Raymond Cunningham, Fred Cunningham, Ed Cunningham, Vernon Cunningham, and Ernest Cunningham and seven sisters, Grace Cunningham, Mildred Kilburn, Fannie Mae Murray, Carrie Lee Epperson, Evelyn Davis, Lavern Cunningham, and Joan Green.

Honoring Mr. Cunningham as pallbearers will be Eddie Berry, Jonathan Hime, Kasey Tackett, Abby Craig, Jay Woods, Sara Beth Woods, Tristan Cunningham, and Erica Brooke Hendren.
