Bobby James Richards Obituary

Bobby James Richards, 79, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

 

He was born on September 13, 1945, in Dyer County, Tennessee, to the late Marvin Willis Richards and the late Lois Virginia Stanfield Richards. He grew up in a close-knit family that cherished their time together and supported one another through every chapter of life.

For many years he worked at Oldburg Manufacturing before retiring from Bekaert. He was a dedicated employee and was admired for his work ethic.

From a young age, he developed a passion for speed and craftmanship.  He spent countless weekends drag racing with his brothers, where they made many unforgettable memories.  His love for classic vehicles was evident in the care and creativity he poured into customizing trucks, a hobby that brought him great joy and pride.

Bobby was a devoted caregiver to his brother Jerry, a role he embraced with unwavering love and dedication. Together, they shared many good times, often spent watching wrestling matches and cheering on their favorite stars. Their bond was a testament of compassion and selfless love.

A man of faith. he attended East Dyersburg United Methodist Church for many years. In recent years, he found a spiritual home at Rehoboth Church, where he took great pride in supporting his son, who serves as Pastor.

Graveside services for Mr. Richards will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. Dan Tilly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Bro. David Richards (Cristy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; two brothers, Jerry Wayne Richards of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Marty Lynn Richards (Kristy) of Newbern, Tennessee; one sister, Pat Sollis (Jerry) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and he was "Grandpa" to his two grandchildren, Katie Richards and Jon David Richards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Willis Eugene Richards.

Honoring Mr. Richards as pallbearers will be Mike Sollis, Brandon McIntosh, Jeffrey Richards, Mike Jackson, Jon David Richards, Blake McAlister and Chase Sollis.
